Ashlee, Spencer, Emily, and Kelsey's group focused on Nutrition, Sleep and Dorm Life. One of the articles they assigned was called Nutrition Tips for College Students from Bucknell University. Everyone is familiar with the freshman fifteen deal, but this website gives you tips on how to prevent that. They’re main points are to eat regular meals, make healthy meal choices, healthy protein sources, healthy snack choices, lower calorie snack options, drinking responsibly, being prepared for emotional eating, and exercising daily. Some specific ideas are to eat a small meal every 3-5 hours instead of eating huge meals every 5 or 6. For snacks, pick up a piece of fruit or something that will fill you up without intaking too many calories. You also need to make healthy meal choices. Instead of eating pizza, a burger and a donut, eat a slice of pizza and a salad or fruit. Also, another big part of the weight gain is drinking and partying. Alcohol can cause a huge weight gain because there’s so many calories in just one beer or alcoholic beverage.
Another big aspect of staying healthy is exercising. If you sign up for the gym or exercise classes every semester and go to them, you’ll find yourself sustaining your weight or even losing some. Walking to class or taking walks between classes could help too. Instead of taking a bus or the shuttle to Davis, leave earlier and walk to get more exercise. Walking to class or to lunch or dinner could make a big difference and it helps you digest afterwards too. At the end of this article, they have examples of flexible eating schedules which is a big help for people that might not know how to control their eating habits. This was a very helpful article with a lot of great information for college students; especially freshmen.
